New Chief |
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins has announced Tom Schultz will serve as the 21st chief of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service.
Schultz previously served as vice president of resources and government affairs at Idaho Forest Group, where he led timber procurement operations and managed relationships with government officials at all levels. A former U.S. Air Force officer, Schultz also served as director of the Idaho Department of Lands, overseeing the management of several million surface acres of endowment lands and minerals. He held leadership roles in Montana’s Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, managing the Trust Lands and Water Resources Divisions.
Schultz holds a bachelor’s degree in government from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree in political science from the University of Wyoming, and a master’s degree in forestry from the University of Montana. |
2025 Rocky Mountaineer Scholarships
 The Rocky Mountaineer Scholarship Committee is now accepting scholarship applications for 2025.
The deadline for applications is March 31, 2025.
We plan to offer four scholarships for $1,500 each. Two of these scholarships are earmarked for natural resource majors.
The application process requires –
- Applicants must be high school seniors graduating this year.
- Completion of the Application form.
- Writing an Essay (limited to 750 words).
- Letters of Recommendation (optional).
- Applicants must be sponsored by a member of the Rocky Mountaineers.

2025 Rocky Mountaineers Grant Program
The Rocky Mountaineers Forest Service Association is accepting applications for grants to help fund projects in 2025 that further the goals of the Rocky Mountaineers within the Rocky Mountain Region of the U.S. Forest Service as noted in the Project Selection Criteria.
Grant applications will be accepted from private, non-profit, or non-governmental organizations and individuals pursuing such goals. Grant awards will not be made directly to the U.S. Forest Service.
Approximately $2,500 - $5,000 will be available in 2025 for project grants.
Grant applications are due by April 30, 2025.

2025 SKI DAY
The 12th Annual Rocky Mountaineers Ski Day was held on February 10.
Plan to attend the fun event next year and click the picture to see a blowup and role call of those that made the event special!

Sunlight Ski Day February 12, 2025 Western Slope Chapter of the Rocky Mountaineers RM
Eight Skiers and Boarders gathered on a chilly day with 4 inches of new snow to share the laid-back Sunlight Ski Area, Glenwood Hot Springs, and dinner.
Getting first tracks on the White River Trail was a joyful experience!
Glenwood Hot Springs was a great happy relaxed hour with all soaking up the new Yampah Hot Springs Pool additions. Fine Mexican dining after at Frida’s was a delight a well!

Blue Danube 2026
The Rocky Mountaineers will be traveling with Grand Circle Travel (GCT) on their Romantic Blue Danube: Budapest to Prague trip. The base trip departs the US on July 10 and returns on July 24, 2026.
